Limited edition collection
By the artist Baki
Immerse yourself in the world of tribal artistry and vibrant storytelling with this stunning papier-mâché Fish Sculpture, crafted by the renowned Moroccan artist BAKI from Essaouira.
Part of the KASBAH AFRO Collection, this exceptional piece embodies the fusion of traditional craftsmanship and contemporary artistic expression.
Handcrafted using papier-mâché on a sturdy metallic structure, this sculpture is a celebration of bold colors, intricate patterns, and surreal imagery. BAKI, a self-taught painter and sculptor, finds his inspiration in the Moroccan countryside, where nature and tradition intertwine to fuel his artistic vision. His works are deeply rooted in African and tribal influences, presenting a dreamlike universe where abstract and figurative elements coexist in perfect harmony.
The MOROCCOCO Fish Sculpture is a true symbol of transformation and movement, with its organic curves and hand-painted motifs telling stories of ancestral traditions, mysticism, and a bold connection to nature. The vibrant red, blue, yellow, and pink tones enhance the fluidity of the piece, while symbolic patterns and intertwined creatures add layers of meaning and artistic depth.
Born in 1962 in Essaouira, Morocco, BAKI is a self-taught painter and sculptor who has been creating uninterruptedly for over thirty years. At the age of 28, mandatory military service led him to lose his job as an electrician, which ultimately redirected him toward craftsmanship and later, painting.
In makeshift workshops nestled in a courtyard, the artist collects branches and twisted tree trunks, envisioning within them the shapes of animals and mythical figures. His sculptures often feature a central motif or figure, around which an intricate bestiary unfolds—bodies doubling, limbs intertwining, forming a surreal and dynamic composition.
Each sculpture by BAKI is a one-of-a-kind masterpiece, making it a perfect statement piece for eclectic interiors, bohemian decor, luxury boutique spaces, and art collectors who appreciate the richness of cultural heritage infused with modern creativity.
