The KASBAH collection, embodying Amazigh Kasbah style furniture, draws inspiration from Morocco’s traditional earthen architecture and the cultural heritage of the Amazigh people, North Africa’s original inhabitants.
Kasbahs and ksars, iconic Moroccan fortified structures, historically fostered community with spaces for both shared and private use, designed for defense.
Constructed using the pisé technique, compacted earth blocks, or adobe bricks, these buildings rise to impressive heights, creating striking volumes.
The KASBAH Collection mirrors the geometric elegance of Moroccan kasbah towers, where load-bearing walls, up to one meter thick at the base and tapering to 50 cm at upper levels, form a distinctive truncated conical shape. These earthen forms are enhanced by materials like wood, stone, and lime, inspiring the collection’s design.
MOROCCAN EARTHEN ARCHITECTURE INSPIRATION
The Amazigh kasbah style furniture in the KASBAH BERBER Collection features solid wood benches and stools with truncated conical legs, upholstered with handwoven textiles.
Unlike Eastern weaving traditions, Tamazight craftsmanship, practiced by nomadic and semi-nomadic women of the Maghreb, emphasizes individual creativity, making each piece unique. This time-honored tradition, passed from mother to daughter, weaves Tifinagh symbols—the Amazigh script—into geometric patterns inspired by daily life.
Expanding beyond seating, the KASBAH Collection includes handwoven pillows, wall art, and paintings, reflecting the bohemian and ethnic aesthetic of North African design.
Most pieces are one-of-a-kind, showcasing vibrant textiles and the rich traditions of the Amazigh people, exclusively crafted by MORETTINA®.
