The Founding of MORETTINA® DESIGN

Mediterranean Design Inspiration

Having settled in Morocco in 2007, Italian architect Silvia Chiabrera noticed a transformation in Moroccan interiors. In new middle-class apartments, traditional Moroccan lounges, lush with textiles and carved wood, were being replaced by modern sofas and tables. Made-in-China decorations appeared on walls, leaving interiors soulless.

The creation of MORETTINA® DESIGN arose from the idea of offering a fresh, personal approach to furnishings.
Old and new blend, creating a eclectic decor that merges the rich heritage of Italian interiors with Morocco’s exotic flair.
From this vision sprang MORETTINA® Mediterranean Design inspiration.

The first edition of the Casablanca Design Week  in Octobre 2017.

Located in the heart of Maarif, a Casablanca neighborhood once home to Italian and Spanish artisans, the MORETTINA® DESIGN atelier and shop opened its doors in October 2017 during the first Casablanca Design Week.
Launched by the Houna collective, Casablanca Design Week (CDW) emerged as a unifying cultural event to elevate Casablanca as a hub of creation. Under the theme “What do we conceive?”, CDW gathered Morocco’s key design players across ten venues, blending exhibitions, urban walks and conferences.

Free and open to all, the Casablanca Design Week democratized design. It links professionals, artisans, entrepreneurs, students, and the public. It fostered interactions among amateurs, industries, institutions, and associations, promoting Morocco’s creative economy without intellectual snobbery.

During this event, MORETTINA® DESIGN was selected to participate, showcasing its innovative concept, unique in Casablanca.
Contemporary dancers and musicians from diverse origins, moving among furniture collections, enlivened the opening celebration in a warm, informal atmosphere. MORETTINA® DESIGN’s aim became clear: forging connections and uniting artists from diverse disciplines and origins.

An “artisanal ” Concept Store

Beyond furniture, the shop-workshop began hosting consignment items from Moroccan and international artists and creators, offering them greater visibility and providing visitors with a wider range of products.

Over time, the space came alive with products, and the first experiments began.
The displayed items reflect this dynamic collaboration between the designer, artisans, and artists.

The space takes on the feel of a “concept store” for artistic craftsmanship, ranging from artisanal furniture to fashion, photography, and painting. Events are regularly organized, such as exhibitions, creators’ sales, and musical evenings.
